LIM Water Coasters<\/h2>\n\n

LIM water coasters are among the most advanced types of water attractions in modern water parks. Companies such as ProSlide Technology have popularised this technology through their HydroMAGNETIC line. Below is an overview of what they are, how they work and why they stand out.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

What is a LIM water coaster?<\/h3>\n\n

A LIM water coaster<\/strong> is a water slide that works much like a roller coaster:<\/p>\n\n

    \n
  • you do not only travel downhill<\/strong>, but also climb back uphill<\/strong> over hills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the upward propulsion is provided by Linear Induction Motors (LIM)<\/strong>, an electromagnetic launch system.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    This means the boat or raft is magnetically accelerated<\/strong> as it moves along the course. This allows the attraction to handle steep climbs and long layouts, much like a roller coaster.<\/p>\n\n

    How does it work technically?<\/h3>\n\n

    Broadly speaking, the system consists of three components:<\/p>\n\n

    1. Magnets in the track<\/strong> –> Electromagnetic elements sit beneath the fibreglass water trough.<\/p>\n\n

    2. Metal plates or magnetic components in the boat<\/strong> –> The raft contains metal plates or magnetic components.<\/p>\n\n

    3. Electromagnetic force (LIM)<\/strong> –> When current passes through the coils, it creates a magnetic field that pushes the boat forward without physical contact.<\/p>\n\n

    Benefits of this system:<\/p>\n\n

      \n
    • higher speed<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • steeper hills<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • less mechanical wear (no conveyor belts)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • energy is used only when a boat passes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      Difference from other types of water coasters<\/h3>\n\n

      Before LIM, other systems already existed:<\/p>\n\n

        \n
      • Conveyor belt \/ conveyor –> the boat is carried uphill on a conveyor belt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

            LIM is more powerful (but also more expensive) and can handle longer and steeper climbs than water jets.<\/p>\n\n
